Is Labelling Everything Around You a Childish Activity or a Helpful Strategy?

The more you are surrounded by the language, the better and faster you will master it. That is why I speak during my lessons only in Czech (and, if really, really, really needed – then English).

Immersion in the language is a known language learning strategy, which is used for both adults and kids. Maybe you feel that having objects at home labelled with Czech words is a bit childish. Well, if so, you have two options: just stop reading this post, or think that you can sometimes do something new and exciting. And, as a plus, you will learn some new words! What a deal!

So, how does it work? You need a paper, a pen, and sticky tape! Or, you can use my beautifully created set of basic home furniture pictures below the article – then you need a different set: printer, scissors, and sticky tape!

You start labelling everything that you can – you see a chair? Take a paper, write SKŘÍŇ, and stick it on the chair. And that is it! Every day you pass by, you see it, and it activates different learning styles (visual, reading/writing, and kinesthetic/physical ones). Wow, three learning styles in one – that is what you want!

Is it already EASY for you? -> upgrade it and add there the word in each case:

1) SKŘÍŇ (fe) (nominativ )

2) U SKŘÍNĚ (genitiv)

3) KE SKŘÍNI (dativ)

4) SKŘÍŇ (akuzativ)

5) -- if you wish to call the wardrobe (:-D) SKŘÍNI!!

6) NA SKŘÍNI (lokal)

7) SE SKŘÍNÍ (instrumental)
